When I was in kindergarten, my Sunday School teacher's name was Mrs. Farley. She was very old (probably 50 or so) :) but she loved us kids so much. I think she had been a missionary or something.
Our church was just a little tiny chapel that held about 30 people. We were a growing church though, and so our Sunday School classes (creatively) met other places. Some met at the pastor's house (next door), others met in the back of a truck owned by my Uncle who had his own trucking business. I'm not sure what other places were used. Our little class, though, sat on the floor in the foyer of the chapel. Really, it was more like an "entry hall," because it was about 10 x 10. Very small.
There were probably 15 of us or so. Plus Mrs. Farley.
She was teaching us about the books of the Bible: how many, their names, the different "sections" of the Bible (i.e. history, prophecy, epistles, etc.) and assorted other interesting things about the Bible.
One Sunday, she came in with a brand new, shiny black leather Bible. It was such an awesome sight. I noticed right away that the edges of the pages were red. I'd never had a book like that before. She told us that if we could tell her how many books were in the Bible, we could have it.
We all started yelling out numbers all at once. "Four hundred, eighty two, twelve, thirty eight, one thousand," we called out. The numbers went on and on until finally she stopped and said, "Who said 'sixty six'?" I said, "I did!" She handed me the Bible. It was a proud moment.
I have to honestly say that I don't know for sure that I actually said sixty six. I had called out so many numbers that it is possible. Also possible that I didn't. I'm not saying I lied. I'm only saying I'm not sure I told the truth. But not on purpose, you understand.
I'm pretty sure Mrs. Farley would forgive me!
