Grandma Thatcher

There isn't much to say about my dad's mom, but she deserves a place in this story of our family. I'll do my best.

She died when my dad was just a little guy (4 years old or so) and so obviously I never knew her. My dad had very few memories of her, if any.

I do know that she was born and lived in Canada. She was a concert pianist (according to my Aunt Bina). She had been married at least one time before my grandpa, and my Aunt Bina came out of that relationship.

She and my grandpa got married in Mexico. Not sure why they went there to get married, but I have seen pictures of that event so I know it's true. My dad was born suspiciously soon after they got married, but hey, maybe he was premature! Who knows?

After my dad was born, my Aunt Betty came along soon after (maybe a year) and then my Uncle Floyd after that. She had three children in about four years.

And then she died. I have heard various stories of what she died of, so I won't speculate here. Apparently it was very quick though, and it left the family in chaos.

My dad (my opinion here) never recovered from growing up without a nurturing mom. It continues to be one of the saddest things that I know about in our family history.
